Make them stop… make them stop…
Why does everyone want to sell me a battery powered scooter?

    Look at these specs:
    $1,299
    Speed: 12 mph (20 km/h)
Range: 4 to 6 miles (6 to 9 km, depending on terrain and riding style)
Recharge time: 20 minutes with fast charger, 120 minutes with standard charger
    Weight: 25 lb (11 kg)

    Really?

A lot of the mechanized devices we discuss are sabotaged by the low power and large size of their motors. There’s nothing wrong with motorized skates for example, the problem is that the particular motorized skates that have been brought to market are huge, ugly, slow, expensive, etc. (see http://www.wheeledthing.com/rocketskates/)

Serious question: is this in the same category? If you could magically make it cheaper and faster, and make the battery last longer, would the Onewheel find a market?

I think the number of serious potential users, let alone purchasers, is miniscule. Most people would want something more scooterlike, i.e. two-wheeled for support and a stick to steer. Regardless of price or performance, this thing is just a novelty.
