I ran across the following on AliExpress, selling for $109.73 a pair.
At first glance, it looks like inline skates where the wheels are at the bottom of a sprinted platform. However fatal such an arrangement must be, I was tempted.
The reality is somewhat less bad. The wheels and springs are options; you get the boots and both kinds of bases and attach whichever you prefer.

They have bike share stations here, and station less bikes littered about as well.
Seems like a tough town for either business model, as they presume the existence of a large population that doesn’t already have bikes.
Whatever rules I follow, they’re bike rules.
This was on East 54th St. The rider wore a suit and helmet and navigated the sidewalk pretty well.

I’m pretty sure we’ve written about this design before, but I’m too lazy to check. Seen in the wild today in Grand Central Station. The thing looks to weigh at least 30 pounds and the rider had to lug it up a long staircase before he could use it.
Seen in midtown Manhattan a couple of days ago. Any theories?
